A small weather buoy rocket, using unmanned weather and oceanographic buoys as automatic rocket
launching platforms is being tested by the Space Defense Corp. of Birmingham, Mich. The testing is under
contract with the United States office of naval research. The rockets will obtain atmospheric data from as
high as 100,000 feet altitude. Standing on a buoy at the University of Michigan's launching station in the
